In the Spotlights: PsychChips
Illumina's PsychArray is a recently released Infinium BeadChip for the evaluation of genetic variants which are known to be involved in common psychiatric disoders. This genotyping microarray was developed in collaboration with the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium.
The total number of makers on PsychChip amount to 571,000 markers. The content, chosen by experts, include 271,000 SNPs from the HumanCore Beadchip, 277,000 markers from the HumanExome chip, and additionally 50,000 genetic variants associated in research with conditions such as:
- Bipolar disorder
- Autism-spectrum disorders
- Major depressive disorder
- Tourette's syndrome
