Affymetrix systems:

The GeneTitan family of instruments enables the processing of GeneChip® Arrays on a plate, increasing the throughput. The new instrument automates the microarray experiments from array processing to data generation. These plate arrays are available for Human, Mouse and Rat (more organisms are following) in formats of 16, 24 and 96 samples per plate for 3'IVT and Gene ST arrays.

Due to the automated processing, less hands-on time is required, making this system available at lower costs than the conventional GeneChips. To fully understand the differences, advantages, and disadvantages of the plate arrays, please contact us

Affymetrix Array types:

Affymetrix uses photolithography and solid-phase chemistry to produce arrays containing hundreds of thousands of 25-mer oligonucleotide probes packed at extreme high densities. Affymetrix uses 11 probe pairs (22 individual probes) to measure the expression level of each gene transcript. This reduces data variability for the most accurate and reproducible results possible. Because 25-mer probes are used, GeneChip Arrays offer the optimal balance between sensitivity and specificity. Affymetrix has the following array types:

  • 3' IVT Expression: Ideal for gene expression analysis on 3' end of transcripts (also available in plate array format for human, mouse, rat)
  • Gene Arrays: Whole-transcript gene expression if unbiased 5' to 3' end coverage of gene expression: a more accurate representation (also available in plate array format for human, mouse, rat).
  • Exon Arrays: Whole transcript gene expression: Ideal when analyzing or discovering alternative splicing events.
  • Tiling Arrays: Whole transcript double stranded assay: Ideal for ChIP-on-chip transcript mapping and analyzing gene regulation. The array with the highest density and resolution of any commercially available array. Available for a number of organisms, including human, mouse, arabidopsis, drosophila, C. elegans, and yeast)

Coming soon is the Affymetrix Axiom genotyping service. We are in the process of upgrading our systems, training our personnel, and validating the system. Interested in the Axiom genotyping technology of Affymetrix? Contact us!
